I hope you've all had a marvelous week! We mixed it up a bit this last week in San Blas. A new transfer began last Wednesday. We no longer go into the city to pick up our new companions, they now come to us. As a result, Hermana Hernandez, who is serving on the island of Ustupu, came to stay with us while waiting for her new companion to arrive. We had a really good time being in a trio with her. She said that she loved Tupile and that the people here are really special. I sure wouldn't trade my island for any others!
On Saturday we took a boat to the port to meet up with our incoming companions. While we stopped to fill up the boat motor we saw some dolphins popping out of the water. We sat and watched them for a moment, then they came right up to the boat! They made a couple of loops around us, then headed away. They are such beautiful animals, and it was an awesome experience.
Afterward, we headed to the port. Upon arriving, since I'm the sister whose been out here the longest and I supposedly know my way around the system, I was put in charge of finding a boat for all of the missionaries out to their islands . . . whatever. Fortunately, I was able to find some boats fairly quickly, and I even got them all one with a "roof" so they wouldn't get fried on the multi-hour boat ride. Mission accomplished.
So my new companion's name is Hermana Niebla from Los Angeles, California. She is 21 and has 11 months in the mission. We're in a trio again because Hermana Hastings in finishing her mission next Monday. It will be sad to see her go because we've had an incredible two changes together. I know that she and I had an important work to do together here. The progress we've seen with the youth has truly been miraculous. We've seen their testimonies grow, and we have so much fun with them. There is never a dull moment when they're around. For instance, yesterday, while talking to some youth in front of the church, one of them decided to smear some of their cake frosting on my face. Naturally I had to retaliate :) We both ended up with cake all over us. Yet another memory made :)
This week I was reading in Alma 5. I love the way that Alma teaches in this chapter, he's so Socratic. I especially liked verse 14.
14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your hearts?
He then returns to this thought in verse 24.
26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
The tricky part of this gospel for many of us can be enduring to the end and maintaining our conversion to Christ. Many of us have had memorable experiences with the spirit in which we may feel like we were converted, but we must frequently ask ourselves, do we continue to feel that conversion to the Lord? The gospel of Jesus Christ is a lifestyle, an everyday thing. Though it is normal to have high and low days, we should always search for converting experiences. I invite you to read completely Alma 5. It's a good, thought-provoking lesson for us all.
I love and miss you all! Make it a wonderful week!
Go Forward With Faith,
Hermana Falslev
